Admissions & education guide — not an independent editorial endorsement. This guide is for prospective students in Nigeria who are comparing online Master’s options while balancing work, family or an earlier academic path. University of NorthWest information below was checked against the university’s current public pages on 15 September 2026. Applicants should still obtain written confirmation of program availability, admission decisions, fees and recognition for their intended use before paying.
For many working applicants, the hardest question is not simply “Can I study online?” but “Which current degree title actually fits the background I already have?” That matters especially for applicants coming from public administration, business, development work, international affairs or related fields. An application form may allow you to type a desired major, but that does not by itself mean a degree with that exact title is currently offered.
Start with the current Master’s directory, not only the major box
University of NorthWest’s current Master’s directory lists, among other programs, Master of Science in Development Administration, Master of Science in Human Resource Development, Master of Science in Foreign Service, Master of Science in Management, Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Information Systems, Master of Science in Cyber Security and Master of Financial Engineering.
For a Nigerian applicant whose previous study or work is in public administration, international affairs, public policy, business or marketing, three titles may be especially worth comparing: Development Administration, Foreign Service and Management. The current public Master’s directory does not list a program titled exactly “International Business Marketing” or “International Relations.” If that is the wording you have in mind, ask Admissions which currently listed degree is the correct academic match before you assume the open-text major field creates a separate program.
The university’s current Master of Science in Management page describes areas including strategic management, organizational behavior, financial accounting and analysis, marketing management, operations and supply-chain management, data analytics for managers, project management, international business and entrepreneurship. The same page describes online, on-campus or hybrid delivery. A business-oriented applicant should therefore compare this published curriculum with their actual career objective rather than choosing a title only because it sounds familiar.
The Master of Science in Development Administration is also currently listed. Its public program page references development economics, public-policy analysis, project management and monitoring and evaluation. That may be a more natural comparison point for someone whose background is public administration, government, NGOs or development work. Foreign Service is likewise listed as a current Master’s title, so applicants focused on diplomacy or international affairs can ask Admissions for the current approved curriculum and delivery details in writing.
Online and flexible study: what the Admissions page actually says
University of NorthWest’s current Admissions page presents its model as flexible distance/online learning and says students can work when and where they want without sacrificing personal commitments. It also says students may begin their education at any time and complete their degree within their own time constraints.
For a working adult, that flexibility can be important, but it should not be interpreted as a promise of a particular graduation date. Before enrolling, ask for the current study plan for your chosen degree, semester structure, assessment method and any program-specific requirements that apply to you.
Prior learning and unfinished education: document everything
The Admissions page says that students who demonstrate prior experiential learning may be entitled to course reductions toward degree requirements. “May” is the key word. This is an evaluation possibility, not an automatic credit-transfer guarantee.
That is especially relevant to applicants who have substantial professional experience, earlier university study, professional training or an unfinished degree. The current Apply Now form explicitly asks applicants to list all schools attended even if they did not graduate, including colleges, universities, trade schools, private schools and training courses; it also allows comments on life experience.
A practical application file can therefore include a clear education timeline, transcripts or results already earned, certificates from relevant professional training and a concise description of work experience. Do not assume that experience will shorten the degree. Instead, ask for the outcome of any prior-learning review in writing before planning the remaining study period.
Published Master’s tuition: build the full semester plan
The university’s current Tuition Fee page lists the following off-campus Master’s charges: a US$100 non-refundable admission fee, US$1,500 tuition per semester and a US$100 examination fee per semester, with the Master’s schedule shown as four semesters.
Using only those published core figures, the planning total is US$6,500: US$100 admission plus four semesters of US$1,500 tuition and US$100 examination fees. This is a planning calculation based on the published table, not a guarantee that no other program-specific or administrative cost can apply. The same official page says fees and other charges may change without prior notice and states that payments once deposited are not refundable.
What the Easy Installment Program means
The same tuition page says an Easy Installment Program is available for registered students and directs students to the Admission Office for details. It does not publish one universal installment schedule on that page. Prospective students should therefore request the exact installment dates and amounts that would apply to their own enrollment rather than assuming a particular monthly payment plan.
If you are budgeting from Nigeria, a sensible sequence is: first confirm program fit, then obtain the current admission/fee terms in writing, then ask how the Easy Installment Program would apply after registration, and only then decide how the semester costs fit your personal cash flow.
Recognition and accreditation: verify before payment
Recognition should be treated as a separate decision from admissions. University of NorthWest’s own current Accreditations & Memberships page states that the university operates without accreditation from any agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For that reason, applicants should not assume automatic recognition, professional licensing eligibility, credit transfer or acceptance by a particular employer or institution.
If your Master’s will be used for employment, promotion, further study, a regulated profession or an official credential evaluation, check acceptance with the relevant authority, employer or receiving institution before paying. Ask the receiving body the precise question: “Will this specific University of NorthWest degree be accepted for the purpose I intend to use it for?” Keep the response for your records.
A five-step application workflow for working adults
- Choose the exact current degree title. Compare your background and career goal with the Master’s programs currently listed by the university.
- Prepare the complete academic history. Include unfinished study rather than hiding it; the Apply Now form specifically asks for it.
- Request prior-learning review where relevant. Submit evidence, but do not plan on course reduction until it is confirmed.
- Build a semester-by-semester budget. Use the current official tuition page and request the actual Easy Installment terms available after registration.
- Verify recognition for your intended use. Admissions approval and external recognition are different questions.
Where to apply and verify the current information
Prospective students can review the official University of NorthWest Admissions information, check the current Tuition Fee schedule and use the official Apply Now form. Applicants who want an additional preliminary admissions review can also use the global admission-review page.
The useful question is not whether an online Master’s is broadly “good” or “bad.” It is whether the specific current program, its documented study requirements, its cost and its recognition status fit your own objective. For working professionals in Nigeria, making those checks before enrollment is the most practical way to turn flexibility into a realistic study plan.
